Tonight’s episode of BBC Panorama features the latest report that has been prepared for the Committee on Climate Change, the government body which advises ministers how to cut the UK’s carbon footprint. The overriding message is how an upheaval in our lifestyles is the only way to meet targets.
The report focuses heavily on home heating, cited as the single biggest challenge in terms of reducing UK emissions. Home heating accounts for 21% of a household’s carbon footprint. The report states that decarbonisation of the UK electricity grid creates opportunities for low-carbon heating systems, and air source heat pumps are specifically mentioned as a solution to solve this challenge.
