£7,500 BUS Grant Can Now Be Applied Upfront for Alto Assured Partners
Heat pumps installed through our Alto Assured MCS Umbrella Scheme are invariably high-quality installations. Homeowners can combine the benefit of working with their local plumbing and heating installer, alongside the security that comes from working with one of the UK’s leading heat pump suppliers, Alto Energy.
We are always looking at ways to make it even easier for homeowners to make the decision go ahead with a heat pump with an Alto Assured partner installer, and to that end we are very excited to announce an update to how we will process the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) voucher for installations completed by trusted Alto Assured installation partners.
For approved Alto Assured installation partners, we can deduct the £7,500 BUS grant amount from our quotation UPFRONT. This vastly reduces the upfront payment the customer is required to make, making their decision to install a heat pump even easier.

How is it Going To Work?
For approved Alto Assured installation partners, we can deduct the £7,500 BUS grant amount from our quotation upfront. This will be the process:
Step 1: Project Submission
You have a project where the customer is interested in a heat pump, and you share the details of that project with us in the usual way.
Step 2: Quotation Issuance
We produce our quotation to you for Design, Supply, Commissioning and MCS Accreditation (together the “Services”) for an air source heat pump system. We will deduct the £7,500 BUS grant from this quotation.
Step 3: Customer Pricing
You provide the customer with a total price for full installation. Please note you must never charge the customer more for the Services than the Net List Price (this is the List Price of our Services, less the £7,500 grant). The homeowner will need to sign an end-user contract form that shows this Net List Price.
Step 4: Grant Approval & Payment
If the customer wants to proceed, prior to delivery of the equipment we will need to apply for the BUS grant and have received approval from Ofgem, and the balance of the quotation will need to be paid.
Step 5: Installation & Commissioning
Installation and commissioning must happen immediately after delivery of the equipment. This is because we cannot redeem the grant until the installation is signed off.
Step 6: Grant Redemption
Ofgem pays the £7,500 grant directly to Alto Energy, which we keep as final stage payment for the job.

Which Projects Are Eligible?
In order for us to be happy to discount the BUS grant upfront, we have to be comfortable that the risk of the BUS grant not being redeemed is low. With that in mind, we can apply the BUS grant upfront under the following conditions:
Retrofit projects only. In our experience, new builds and renovation projects are subject to delays as well as eligibility risk with Ofgem, and as such we cannot provide the BUS grant upfront in these situations.
Trusted Alto Assured installation partners. This typically means that the installation partner has completed 3 or more installations with Alto Energy, and that all other compliance aspects are up to date (e.g. insurance, etc.).
Project must be installation-ready. This is because we need to be able to commission the project as soon as we’ve delivered the equipment, in order to get the BUS grant redeemed and paid.
As always, we always try to be pragmatic and come up with solutions for customers and installers alike, and so naturally these rules are not 100% rigid. So, if you have a project and would like to discuss having the BUS grant discounted upfront, please do speak with your Account Manager to see what is possible.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a Government initiative designed to financially incentivise property owners to install low-carbon heating systems instead of fossil fuel boilers. The scheme launched in Spring 2022 and is scheduled to run until 2028. Please note that voucher awards are subject to availability and eligibility criteria, both at Ofgem’s sole discretion. Alto Energy is MCS-accredited as well as being registered with Ofgem for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
