New Boiler Upgrade Scheme - What We Know So Far
The Government have today published their consultation response for the Future Support for Low Carbon Heat: Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This scheme will be the successor to the current domestic renewable heat incentive scheme, and will provide customers with an upfront grant to reduce the capital cost of installing a heat pump system.
What We Know So Far
The scheme will be called the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The target start date for the scheme is April 2022
Ofgem will be the administrator of the scheme
Installation capacity is limited to 45kW, in line with the MCS scheme
Domestic and non-domestic installations are eligible
Grant amount is £5,000 for ASHP and £6,000 for GSHP
The scheme is only for England and Wales, Scotland will have it’s own
Domestic custom builds will be eligible
All installers administering the grant must be MCS certified
The voucher mechanism will be entirely led by the MCS contractor. Alto Energy will apply for the voucher; Alto Energy will redeem the voucher
Ofgem are considering releasing part of the voucher amount earlier in the process to aid cashflow
We need to upload an EPC before applying for the voucher (custom build homes will not need an EPC uploading)
Electricity meters and heat meters will not be required. Alto Energy will likely still supply electricity meters because they’re really useful for making sure that the heat pump is performing efficiently
Hybrid systems will not be eligible – this means no boiler backups
The heat pump must provide all the space heating and all the hot water for the property (as defined by the EPC). Heating only systems will not be eligible.
Stay Tuned For Updates
We will make sure to post further updates as and when we get them. As with any new grant scheme, details can take a while to emerge.
