Conversion of a 18th century water mill into a domestic property - with complete heating from a Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump.
With the property being derelict and having only 1 fire place remaining, there were no means of heating water and no showers or bathrooms. Mr Mallinson needed a single source of heat that was “simple to use and affordable”. Being prompted by the fact the property relied on coal burning fires, and “wanting to have the least impact on the environment”, having looked at every alternative heat source, Mr Mallinson decided that the “air source heat pump was the best for our needs.”
“To not have any ‘visible’ signs of heating in the property in keeping with it’s ‘mill’ look; to have a heating system that required the least input from ourselves once installed and to have the most up to date and efficient system that we could afford.” These were just a few of the reasons why Mr Mallinson decided to go with an air source heat pump for his project.
Mitsubishi are a pioneer in the development of renewable heat pump technology. They are, and have been for some time, the UK’s market leader for air source heat pumps. When asked, what made you choose Alto Energy to provide your system, Mr Mallinson said: “Alto provided us with a prompt quote and gave us technical support during and after the installation which was greatly appreciate as we were new to this type of energy. Having researched other manufacturers it was good to see that products that were supplied by Alto were top of the range giving further peace of mind.”
Whilst the initial commissioning of the system did not go to plan, he said the technical support was invaluable to get them back on track.

How have you found living with your system?
“It has taken some time to get used to the low level background heat that is produced, having never had underfloor heating before. We “tinkered” with various room thermostat settings until the system settled down and the whole house dried out from being plastered. Now we just leave it alone and it functions fine.”
