Both UK Power Networks and Northern Power Grid have outlined some business plans backed by £4.5bn and £3.2bn of spending respectively, with a heavy focus towards low carbon generation and low carbon technologies.
UK Power Networks has developed it’s own business plan for 2023 - 2028 with it’s own forecast on the uptake ow low carbon technologies in mind. They predict that 2.7 million electric vehicles will be charging on the network by 2028, as well as an additional 700,000 heat pumps being installed.
Northern Powergrid have also unveiled a plan for the same time period focusing heavily on the need for flexibility in a low carbon energy system.
What this means for the energy networks is an increased demand in electricity while the country moves towards Net Zero, and preparing the national grid for that demand is key.
We wrote recently about the DNO Permission for Heat Pumps and how the increase in demand for heat pumps, and other electric technology, is already having an effect on some of the DNO boards. The news about Electricity Distributors looking to improve this sector is massive for the industry, and is further proof that the future of heating lies in low carbon technologies, such as heat pumps.
