According to the Heat Pump Association , the UKโs heat pump manufacturers have collectively placed more than 67,000 heat pump units this year. They surveyed 2019 and 2020 orders, current stock value and orders for 2021.
Some 35,000 ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps were sold in 2019. So almost doubling to around 67,000 is certainly a big step in the direction of installing 600,000 heat pumps by 2028 - the current UK Government target.
The UK Power Networks also recently published a report forecasting that by 2030, in the region of 450,000 to 1 million domestic heat pumps could be installed.
Heating Installers and Heat Pumps
As a heating and plumbing installer, there are already many options available to those looking to move into the ever growing heat pump market. Alto Energy offer a MCS Umbrella Scheme which requires very little in the ways of upskilling to start installing heat pumps. We design the whole kit to meet MCS standards, supply the heat pump, hot water cylinder and associating parts, complete with install schematics and heat loss calculations, showing designed flow rate, radiator upgrades (where required) and underfloor heating pipe sizes. Installing a heat pump isnโt too dissimilar from your day to day installing of new central heating systems, and once you have installed your first one you will know exactly what we mean! We recently blogged asking whether, as a heating installer, if you feel ready for the Green Revolution. This blog discussed our free heat pump training courses and other things to get you ready for the future of low carbon and heat pumps.
Once you have installed the heat pump system, we send an engineer to commission the unit and make sure everything is installed to MCS standards and register all the relevant certificates and warranties for the heat pump and the customer. We will supply the complete electronic handover pack to the homeowner in one neat file. Where eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) the handover pack will contain the MCS Certificate and a help sheet to guide the homeowner through the process, but we are on hand if they get stuck doing the application at any point!
