Visit A Heat Pump Installation Near You
Hundreds of homeowners across the country have opened their doors to the public to allow those interested in adopting heat pump technology to visit their property to see the heating systems in action.
The new scheme, named Visit A Heat Pump, is being run by the charity Nesta, which has collaborated with heat pump owners to provide potential buyers with the opportunity to see the technology up close and personal. Attendees also have the opportunity to quiz existing users about their experience. This will aid prospective buyers in making informed decisions about whether a heat pump is suitable for their property, while also dispelling any misinformation they may have encountered.
According to Nesta, most people in the UK have never seen a heat pump, so allowing those them to speak to heat pump owners is a great way for the public to learn about the benefits of the technology. Unlike other renewable technologies where adoption can be seen on roads and roofs (think solar PV and electric cars), heat pump adoption is difficult to see, as most units are installed out of sight.
The types of properties available to visit varies, with options to view flats, bungalows and terraced homes. This provides those interested in purchasing a heat pump with the option to make comparisons to their own home. Visitors can also book a visit based on the type heat pump they want to view (air source, ground source or air to air).
In late 2023, Alto Energy were involved in a similar, small-scale initiative, wherein Luton Council unveiled a low-carbon show home featuring solar panels, triple glazing, and an air source heat pump, designed, supplied and commissioned by us. We are therefore encouraged to see alternative, larger scale schemes, promoting the adoption of heat pumps by opening homes to the public.
The recent upgrade to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has sparked a lot of new interest in heat pumps, as well as a lot of questions. For homeowners considering a heat pump, those already living with the system offer invaluable insights. Likewise, heating engineers contemplating installing heat pumps could also find value in the scheme, gaining direct, positive feedback from homeowners who have lived with the system.
